Silver Point is H&N's heavy pointed hunting pellet, and at 11.57 grains in .177 it is a good deal heavier than the domed pellets most people shoot in that calibre. The extra weight and the pointed head are both there for the same reason: to concentrate energy into a small area and drive it through, rather than dumping it on the surface. The blood grooves down the body assist that penetration. It is a shorter-range pellet than a domed match design by design - H&N rate it to 30 metres, and a ballistic coefficient of 0.016 means it sheds velocity faster than a Field Target Trophy - so it rewards getting closer rather than stretching the range. Within that distance, on rats, squirrels, corvids and pigeons, it does exactly what it is meant to. Needs a minimum 12 ft/lbs muzzle energy, so it is not a pellet for a low-powered rifle. Supplied in a tin of 400 in the 4.50mm head size.
