The Hornady Lock-N-Load Modified Case is a calibre-specific cartridge case that works with the Lock-N-Load Overall Length (OAL) Gauge to measure seating depth in your own rifle. The case is threaded at the head so it screws onto the gauge, and its neck is opened up by .002in so it accepts the same bullets you intend to load. Chambered in your rifle, it lets you push a bullet forward until the ogive just touches the rifling, then measure the distance from the case head to the lands. Knowing that figure means you can set bullet seating depth precisely and control the jump to the rifling, which is widely regarded as fundamental to consistent accuracy. Because chamber dimensions vary from rifle to rifle, taking the measurement from your own barrel is far more reliable than working to a generic figure. Modified cases are made to SAAMI specs and are available to fit most popular rifle chambers, so choose the case that matches your calibre. The dial caliper and OAL gauge are not included.
