This Parker-Hale one-piece rifle cleaning rod is built for .17 calibre rifles, with a rod diameter of .170in and a female USA-spec thread at the tip to take standard jags, brushes and mops (sold separately). The rod itself uses a hardened and tempered steel core finished in a tough acetate covering, which protects the bore and rifling from abrasion as the rod passes down the barrel — the same reason serious cleaning kits specify a coated rod rather than bare steel. At the top, a ball-bearing handle spins freely so a brush or jag can follow the barrel's rifling rather than fighting against it, giving a cleaner, more even pass through the bore.
