The Parker-Hale PHWM50 is a wool cleaning mop sized for .50 calibre, also covering .54 and a 12.7mm bore. It is not a brush: the dense wool head is made for spreading a film of oil through the barrel and giving the bore a final polish once the solvent and fouling work is done. Run it down a clean, dry barrel and it lays oil evenly across the lands and grooves to hold off corrosion between outings, then it doubles as a soft swab to lift any last traces of solvent or moisture. The head is shaped to follow the bore without scoring the steel, so it stays kind to the rifling. It carries a female UK thread to suit Parker-Hale and other standard British-thread cleaning rods, making it an easy addition to an existing rod set rather than a whole new kit. For stalkers and target shooters cleaning a large-bore rifle or muzzleloader, it is the last step before the gun goes back in the cabinet. Wash it in warm water with a little detergent now and again to keep the wool soft and working well.
