This is a replacement handle only — no axe head is included. Prandi's hickory haft is sized to fit the maker's German-type throwing axe/hatchet head, giving you a straightforward way to rehandle a Prandi axe once the original haft has split or worn out, rather than replacing the whole tool. The handle measures 14.2 inches and is shaped from hickory — the traditional choice for axe and hatchet hafts because of its strength and ability to absorb the shock of each strike — finished with a clear varnish coat. It's supplied with two ring steel wedges, which are driven into the top of the handle once it's fitted through the head; they expand the wood to lock it tight in the eye, the standard method for securing an axe head to a wooden haft. Rehandling is routine axe maintenance: a cracked or broken handle doesn't mean the head is scrap, and fitting a genuine Prandi haft keeps the balance and fit the axe was built around.
