Sportsmatch mounts are British-made and have been the default answer for a generation of UK shooters who wanted a mount that held zero without costing more than the scope.
Getting the fit right
Three things have to match, and getting any one wrong means the mount will not fit:
- The rail on your rifle — 11mm/15mm dovetail, Weaver, or Picatinny. These are not interchangeable, though the RB5 dovetail-to-Weaver/Picatinny adaptors will bridge the gap if you have a dovetail rifle and a Weaver mount.
- The scope tube diameter — 30mm or 1 inch. Measure the tube, not the objective.
- Height — low, medium or high. This is set by objective bell diameter and by whether you need clearance over iron sights or a moderator.
On height
Go as low as the objective will allow. Every millimetre you raise the scope above the bore increases the correction needed at close range and makes a consistent cheek weld harder to find. If you are mounting high because of a large objective, consider whether you need that objective at all — most stalking is done well inside the range where a big front lens earns its keep.
Tikka-specific two-piece mounts are stocked, as are 1in torch mounts for lamping. For fitting torque, lapping and levelling kit see scope mounting; for other mount brands see Optilock, Warne and Innomount.
