The Vortex Crossfire HD 4-12x44 Illuminated shares the same 4-12x magnification, 44mm objective and side-adjustable parallax as the standard Dead-Hold BDC model, but adds a six-step illuminated floating centre dot to the reticle. That's the genuine difference at dawn and dusk, when most deer are moving and a dark reticle can disappear against a dark-coated animal in low light — switching on the red dot keeps the aim point visible without washing out the target. The reticle itself is Vortex's second focal plane Illuminated Dead-Hold 2A BDC (MOA), which combines the same holdover hashmarks and windage references as the standard Dead-Hold BDC with the illuminated dot for faster, more confident aiming as light fades. Optically it uses the same HD Optical System and fully multi-coated lenses as the rest of the Crossfire HD range for a bright, high-contrast sight picture, and the same capped turrets track in 1/4 MOA clicks with 70 MOA of elevation and windage travel. Built on an aircraft-grade aluminium 1" tube, waterproof, fogproof and shockproof, it's marginally heavier than the non-illuminated version at 21.5oz to house the illumination module, and carries Vortex's unlimited, transferable VIP warranty.
