Trail Cameras & Accessories

A trail camera earns its keep by saving you nights. Knowing that the boar are coming through at two in the morning, or that the fox works the far hedge and not the near one, is worth more than any amount of sitting out on spec.

The main decision is cellular or card. Cellular cameras — Zeiss Secacam 5 and 7, the Spypoint FLEX range, HIKMICRO M15, Stealth Cam Revolver Pro and Fusion Max — push images to your phone over 4G. You stop disturbing the ground, and you find out about a visitor the same night rather than a fortnight later. They need signal where the camera sits, and most involve a data plan. Card-only cameras such as the Secacam 3 and the Stealth Cam DS4K are cheaper to run and perfectly good on a permission you visit anyway.

Then think about what you are asking of it. Detection range and trigger speed matter far more than headline megapixels. A camera on a narrow ride can be slow and still catch everything; a camera watching a wide field edge needs to fire fast or you will collect a great many photographs of the back half of a deer.
