Birchwood Casey's Muzzle Guard Set is a set of three brass guards covering .17 to .30 calibre rifles, made for cleaning from the muzzle end rather than through the breech. On rifles without a cleaning port — or where breech cleaning simply isn't practical — pushing a rod, brush or jag in from the muzzle risks the cleaning rod dragging across the crown, the single most accuracy-critical point on the barrel. Slide the appropriately sized brass guard onto the rod ahead of the brush, mop or jag and it cups over the muzzle, keeping the rod centred and off the crown as it passes through. Being solid brass, the guard itself won't mark or damage the muzzle the way a bare steel rod can if it wanders off-centre. It's a small, inexpensive precaution, but a damaged crown can measurably affect accuracy, so for anyone who has to clean from the muzzle end, running a guard is worth the few seconds it takes to fit.
