This Decoy trophy plate is a dark-stained wooden shield for mounting a roe buck's cut skull and antlers, the traditional way to display a buck taken on the hill. Cut from FSC-certified oak, it measures roughly 23 x 13 cm, a useful mid-size shield that suits a skull cut through or just above the eye sockets while leaving room to letter the date and location beneath. The dark finish sets off pale, well-bleached antlers and pedicles, and looks at home in a larder, study or trophy wall alongside the rest of a season's heads. The skull fixes to the plate in the usual way, with a screw run through from the back into the brain cavity, or set in body filler where the nose cut is too short to take a fixing directly. Solidly made and properly finished, it gives a roe trophy the presentation it deserves once the boiling, cleaning and bleaching are done. A sound choice for stalkers building a collection or mounting a memorable buck.
