The Trap Man Clam Trap Larsen Mate is a UK-made single-catch trap for legal corvid control, built for gamekeepers, pest controllers and anyone managing magpies and crows to protect ground-nesting birds, poultry and livestock. It uses a spring-over "clam" action triggered by a pair of split perches: as a bird lands and its weight splits the perches, the trap closes over it. Unlike a full Larsen trap it carries no decoy compartment, so it is built specifically to take your first call bird of the season, which can then be moved into a decoy Larsen trap to draw in further birds at the same setting. It arrives ready assembled, with nothing to build before it goes out into the field, and its simple mechanism means it can be reset and used again and again once a bird has been caught. As with any corvid trap, it should only be operated in line with the relevant general licence for wild bird control, and good practice means checking it at least once a day so any catch, target or otherwise, is dealt with promptly.
