This is the genuine OEM spare hammer ratchet (part number 3) for the Bruni Olympic 6 blank-firing revolver. The hammer ratchet is the toothed component on the rear of the cylinder that the hammer engages to rotate the cylinder one position with each cock of the action. It works together with the elevator to ensure the cylinder indexes correctly, bringing each chamber in turn into alignment with the barrel. A worn, damaged or broken hammer ratchet will cause the cylinder to fail to rotate or to index erratically, resulting in misfires and an unreliable action. This replacement part is manufactured to the original Bruni factory specification and seats correctly on the Olympic 6 cylinder without modification or adjustment. The ratchet is subject to repeated mechanical stress with every cycle of the action and is one of the more important wear components in the revolver mechanism. Fitting a genuine Bruni replacement ensures the timing relationship between hammer and cylinder is maintained correctly.
