Meindl make leather boots for people who walk rough ground for a living, and the range here is built around the models stalkers, keepers and hill walkers actually buy.
Which Meindl for which job
- Dovre Extreme GTX – the tall, stiff hill boot, Gore-Tex lined. The one for side-hill work on the open hill and a wet season in heather. The version listed here is the wide fit, so check the listing if you need a standard width.
- Dovre Pro (Short) GTX – the same idea in a lower cut, for anyone who finds the full-height boot restrictive.
- Burma Pro MFS – a leather walking boot with Meindl's MFS memory-foam ankle padding. Lighter and more forgiving than the Dovre, better on tracks and lower ground than on steep, wet hill.
- Stavanger MFS, Caracas GTX, Bhutan MFS, Borneo 2 MFS, Glockner GTX – the lighter end of the range for estate work, dog walking and day walks.
- Woodwalker Pro GTX – a chainsaw forestry boot, not a stalking boot. For anyone running a saw on the estate.
Before you order
Try boots on with the socks you will actually wear on the hill – Meindl's own MT merino hunting socks are listed alongside the boots. A stiff hill boot needs breaking in; do not take a new pair of Dovres straight out for a long day.
Leather boots last as long as they are looked after. Meindl Sport Wax, Wet Proof and the conditioner-and-proofer pump spray are in footwear care, replacement laces in 180, 200 and 220cm are in laces, and AirActive replacement footbeds are in insoles.
