The Gehmann 900-22 is a breech safety plug with flag for .22 (5.5mm) calibre rifles — a simple, essential piece of range-safety kit for target and smallbore shooters. Fitted into an open breech, it holds a bright red flag clear of the action so anyone nearby can see at a glance that the rifle is unloaded and safe, which is exactly what most ranges and clubs require before a rifle can be handled or carried. The plug itself has two annular rings that give a snug, secure fit in the barrel while protecting the crown and bore from knocks, and it's moulded from a soft, all-plastic material so it won't mark a rifle case, sight or other equipment it's packed alongside. A length of nylon cord runs from the plug to the flag, so if the breech is accidentally closed on it the cord simply gives rather than the plug being damaged or jammed. At around 130mm overall and just 5 grams, it's light enough to leave in place for the whole session without getting in the way. A cheap, sensible addition to any target rifle owner's kit bag.
