The H&N Field Target Trophy in 4.51mm is the head size most .177 rifles are happiest with, and it is where to start if you have not tried sizing pellets to your barrel before. At 8.64 grains it is a medium-weight domed pellet, flat enough in trajectory to shoot out to the 50 metres H&N rate it to without heroic holdover, and heavy enough to carry useful energy into medium-range quarry. The domed profile is what makes it group - it handles wind and small hold errors far better than a wadcutter, and a ballistic coefficient of 0.021 keeps it steady downrange. The special lead alloy and surface lubrication keep fouling low, so the rifle holds its zero through a long session instead of drifting once the barrel loads up. If 4.51mm does not quite suit your bore, the same pellet is made in 4.50mm and 4.52mm. Minimum 5.5 ft/lbs muzzle energy. Supplied in a tin of 500.
