Hagopur Certosan is a scent-based browsing deterrent for trees and shrubs, developed to protect young plants from bite damage caused by roe deer, red deer, hares and rabbits. Rather than acting on the animal directly, it works by giving treated shoots and buds a sensitising scent built from biological proteins, fats and salts that discourages browsing, so it is a woodland and garden management product rather than a personal repellent. Certosan is approved by Germany's Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety and is used by foresters and hunters as well as in private gardens, garden centres and cemeteries. The pump spray bottle is filled with roughly 400ml of cold water, shaken and applied directly to the parts of the plant most at risk, typically terminal shoots and buds. It can be used all year round: applied in late autumn or winter the protection can last up to six months, while in spring and summer, or where deer numbers and browsing pressure are high, reapplication roughly every six weeks is recommended.
