The Hornady Lock-N-Load Modified Case for 222 Remington Magnum is a reloading measurement tool, not ammunition. It is designed for use with the Hornady Lock-N-Load Overall Length (OAL) Gauge (sold separately) and allows handloaders to measure the precise distance from the cartridge head to the rifling lands inside their own rifle chamber. The modified case is manufactured to SAAMI specifications and has a threaded neck that accepts the LNL OAL Gauge. To take a measurement, seat a bullet in the modified case, chamber the assembly in your 222 Rem Mag rifle, and read off the maximum OAL directly from the gauge. That figure lets you set your seating die to place bullets at exactly the relationship to the lands you want — whether that is a light jam, a specific jump, or the precise distance your rifle shoots best. Chamber dimensions differ between individual rifles, so this measurement is only valid in the rifle in which it was taken. One modified case per calibre is required.
