The Hornady Lock-N-Load Modified Case for 300 Weatherby Magnum is a reloading measurement tool — not ammunition. It is designed for use with the Hornady Lock-N-Load Overall Length (OAL) Gauge (sold separately) and allows handloaders to accurately measure the distance from the cartridge head to the rifling lands in their own 300 Wby Mag rifle. The modified case is manufactured to SAAMI specifications and features a threaded neck that accepts the LNL OAL Gauge. To use it, seat a bullet in the modified case and chamber the assembly in your rifle; the gauge reads off the maximum OAL for that specific chamber. The 300 Weatherby Magnum is a high-velocity belted magnum cartridge with a distinctive double-radius freebore design that positions the bullet well ahead of the lands, so seating depth relative to the freebore step is something Weatherby Magnum reloaders pay close attention to. Knowing the true maximum OAL is the first step in that process. One modified case per calibre is required.
