The Hornady Lock-N-Load Modified Case in .308 Marlin Express is a precision reloading tool designed for use with the Hornady Lock-N-Load Overall Length (OAL) Gauge, which is sold separately. It is not ammunition and cannot be loaded — the modified case is a purpose-built measuring device that threads onto the OAL Gauge so you can insert it into your rifle's chamber and determine the exact distance from the case head to the rifling lands. Knowing this measurement allows you to set your bullet seating depth precisely for that specific rifle, reducing run-out and maximising accuracy at the bench or in the field. The case is manufactured to SAAMI specifications for the .308 Marlin Express cartridge and features a specially prepared neck that holds a standard-diameter bullet concentrically, giving you a reliable datum point every time you measure. One modified case per calibre is required; buy the gauge and a modified case for each chambering you reload.
