Micarta is a phenolic laminate composite — layers of linen or canvas cloth soaked in thermosetting resin and pressed under heat — producing a material that is dense, moisture-resistant and dimensionally stable. At just 1.2 mm thick, these pieces are intended as liners rather than full-depth scales: they sit between the handle scales and the blade tang to add a contrasting colour layer, improve fit, or stiffen the scale stack. The red colourway gives a sharp visual accent when sandwiched against natural wood, black G10 or darker micarta. Micarta is straightforward to shape with standard abrasives, drills and files, takes a fine surface finish and does not swell or warp with moisture — qualities that matter when building a working field or hunting knife intended to withstand hard use and wet conditions.
