Warren Cutlery's #9 sweep straight gouge is a hand-forged woodcarving blade made in the USA, sized for detailed work: 3.5in long with a 1/4in cutting width. The #9 sweep is a deep, near-semicircular curve, well suited to cutting deep channels, hollowing bowls and spoons, and cutting flutes and grooves where a shallower gouge can't reach. Being straight rather than bent or spoon-shaped, it's a general-purpose profile that works equally well pushed by hand or struck with a mallet. Hand-forging gives the blade a keen edge that holds up well to sharpening and repeated use, in keeping with Warren's reputation for tools built to perform rather than to look good on a shelf. It suits carvers working on bowls, spoons, relief work, walking sticks and general woodcarving projects who need a deep-cutting gouge alongside their shallower sweeps. As part of Warren's interchangeable small-tang tooling system, it can be fitted into a compatible Warren handle for anyone building up a modular carving set. Whether roughing out material or cutting a defined channel, this #9 sweep straight gouge is a straightforward, hard-wearing addition to a woodcarver's tool roll.
