The Hornady FTX .358 diameter 200-grain bullet for 35 Remington is a component projectile designed for handloaders seeking to maximise the capability of lever-action rifles chambered in 35 Rem. It is not loaded ammunition — this is a bare bullet head sold for reloading. The FTX (Flex Tip eXpanding) design addresses a long-standing limitation of lever guns: the tubular magazine. Conventional spitzer and hollow-point bullets are unsafe in such magazines because the tip of one round rests against the primer of the round ahead. Hornady's patented Flex Tip insert is a soft polymer that absorbs this contact safely, yet on impact compresses into the bullet's cavity to initiate immediate, controlled expansion across a wide range of velocities. The one-piece high-antimony lead core is locked to the jacket via an InterLock ring, maintaining core-jacket integrity under expansion for reliable weight retention and deep penetration on deer and similar game. A heavily jacketed shank and secant-ogive profile deliver accuracy and flat trajectories well beyond what traditional blunt-tipped lever-gun bullets can achieve, extending the effective range of 35 Remington handloads.
