The Hornady XTP (eXtreme Terminal Performance) is a component bullet for handloaders chambering .41 Magnum and similar revolver cartridges. At .410-inch diameter and 210 grains, it is designed to expand reliably across the wide range of velocities typical of handgun cartridges — from modest starting loads through full-power hunting charges. Precise serrations divide the jacket into symmetrical sections, strategically weakening it so expansion initiates consistently even at lower velocities. The drawn gilding-metal jacket covers the hollow-point cavity entirely, protecting it from damage during feeding in semi-automatics and ensuring the cavity functions correctly on impact. A swaged core delivers uniform density for balanced expansion and stable flight. Jacket thickness is varied along the bullet's length to control the rate of expansion, giving the XTP a clear advantage over uniformly plated alternatives. On revolver bullets the cannelure is applied before final forming, allowing a clean, consistent roll crimp without distorting the finished projectile.
