The Hornady XTP (eXtreme Terminal Performance) 300-grain is the heaviest option in the .44 calibre XTP range, offering maximum sectional density for deep penetration in heavy hunting and magnum handgun loads. The gilding metal jacket uses precise serrations to divide the nose into symmetrical sections that promote controlled, uniform expansion at the wide range of velocities possible in .44 calibre firearms, and the deliberately varied jacket thickness — thicker towards the base — prevents the premature over-expansion that can compromise penetration. A swaged lead core provides total uniformity of density to support balanced terminal performance and stable in-flight behaviour. The fully covered gilding metal nose shields the hollow cavity from damage during feeding in semi-automatics and ensures the point functions correctly on impact. A cannelure, applied before the final forming stage to prevent any distortion, provides revolver reloaders with a reliable, consistent crimping seat.
