The Hornady V-MAX in 5.45mm calibre (.2215 diameter, 60 grain) is a reloading component bullet designed for handloaders using 5.45x39 rifles on varmint work. Sold in boxes of 100 (item #2207), each projectile combines a hard polymer tip, match-grade AMP copper jacket and swaged lead core to deliver flat trajectories, consistent accuracy and explosive fragmentation across a wide range of ranges and velocities. The polymer tip sits above a hollow cavity between the shaft and the bullet body; on impact the tip drives into the core, initiating rapid expansion and violent fragmentation even at terminal velocities as low as 1,600 fps. Hornady's AMP (Advanced Manufacturing Process) jacket ensures concentricity for maximum in-flight stability and uniform expansion shot after shot. The streamlined profile raises the ballistic coefficient relative to a conventional flat-base bullet, while the swaged core is formed precisely around the tip cavity for reliable, repeatable performance.
