The Hornady Lock-N-Load Modified Case for 300 Winchester Short Magnum is a calibre-specific reloading tool for use with the Hornady Lock-N-Load O.A.L. Gauge. Built to SAAMI specifications for the 300 WSM chamber, the case is drilled and tapped at the base to accept the O.A.L. Gauge's interchangeable bullet comparator insert. Together, the gauge and modified case enable a handloader to measure the precise cartridge overall length at which a given bullet contacts the rifling lands inside their own rifle barrel — essential information for developing accurate handloads at the correct seating depth. Because throat dimensions differ between individual rifles, this chamber-specific measurement gives a far more reliable baseline than published COAL data alone. The modified case chambers without a primer or powder, captures the bullet at the lands, and the attached gauge records the true COAL. Compact and reusable, it is a practical addition to any 300 WSM handloading setup.
