The Hornady Lock-N-Load 338 Lapua Modified Case is a chambering-specific reloading accessory for use with the Hornady Lock-N-Load OAL (Overall Length) Gauge, sold separately. It is a once-fired .338 Lapua Magnum case that has been drilled and threaded at the base to screw onto the OAL Gauge body. The reloader seats a bullet of their choice in the open neck, then carefully chambers the assembly in the rifle to measure the precise cartridge overall length at which the bullet contacts the rifling lands. This critical datum lets the handloader dial in optimum seating depth for the .338 Lapua Magnum — a powerful long-range cartridge widely used in long-range target shooting and, where permitted, for large or dangerous game. Manufactured to SAAMI specifications, it fits standard .338 Lapua Magnum chambers. It is an inert, reusable measuring tool — not a loaded round, not for firing, and requires no firearms certificate.
