It is a once-fired 7x64mm Brenneke case that has been drilled and threaded at the base to screw onto the OAL Gauge body. The reloader seats a bullet of their choice in the open neck, then chambers the assembly in the rifle to find the precise cartridge overall length at which the bullet touches the rifling lands. Knowing this datum allows the handloader to set optimum bullet seating depth for the 7x64mm Brenneke — a popular European hunting and stalking cartridge with a strong following among UK deer stalkers.
