The Hornady .458 Seater Die is a precision bullet seating die for handloaders working with the 45-70 Government — a large-bore cartridge with a long history in lever-action rifles and still widely used for hunting and target shooting. The die's In-line Bullet Seating System uses a floating alignment sleeve to hold the bullet, case neck and seating stem in co-axial alignment before the bullet enters the case mouth. For the large, heavy projectiles typical of 45-70 handloads, this precise pre-alignment is particularly valuable in preventing bullet tilt during seating, ensuring consistent seating depth and uniform crimp engagement. The built-in roll crimper handles the crimp in the same stroke without requiring a separate die — a practical benefit when loading for lever-action rifles, where a firm roll crimp on the case mouth is standard practice to secure the bullet during feeding. The Sure-Loc lock ring grips the entire die body rather than the threads, keeping your settings locked securely in place. A retainer ring at the base of the die allows quick disassembly for cleaning.
