The Hornady Shell Plate #1 is a precision-machined rotating steel plate designed for use with the Hornady Lock-N-Load AP progressive press and the Hornady Projector press. It seats into the press's indexing platform and holds cartridge cases in place as they advance through each reloading station — sizing, priming, powder charging, and bullet seating. Hornady machines a subtle radius on each shell holder mouth to help cases enter and exit cleanly, reducing the chance of case damage or feeding stoppages during a run. The retainer spring is engineered to keep cases firmly seated during indexing without requiring excessive force to insert or remove them. A single numbered shell plate typically covers a group of cartridge case-head sizes, so one plate will serve multiple calibres sharing that head diameter.
