The Illinois River Close Range Predator Call is a mouth-blown predator call built for close-in work, when a fox or other predator has closed to within a few yards and needs coaxing that last bit further without being spooked. Two black Cycolac mouthpieces are paired with a tough Mylar reed, giving the call a long, reliable working life in the field. Biting down on the mouthpiece lets you drop the volume right down to barely audible squeaks and cries, mimicking the quiet, distressed calls of small prey at close range — exactly the register a wary predator listens for once it is already committed to investigating. It is a straightforward, no-battery design that rewards practice, and a useful companion to a louder open-reed or long-range call for the earlier stages of a stalk. Compact and pocketable, it is equally at home on a fox call or general predator control outing. Supplied by BushWear, the UK field-sports specialist.
