H&N Excite Smart Shot BBs are copper-plated lead ball bearings designed as a safer alternative to conventional steel BBs for .177 smooth bore air pistols and rifles. Unlike steel, the lead core deforms on impact rather than ricocheting unpredictably, making them a sensible choice wherever steel BBs would create a hazard. Each BB undergoes H&N's double copper electroplating process — the PowerCoat finish — which adds hardness, reduces friction in spring-operated magazines, prevents oxidation during storage, and stops lead dust forming at the muzzle. At 7.4 grains these BBs are noticeably heavier than equivalent steel, which brings velocity down slightly but contributes to consistent, predictable trajectories at close range. Maximum effective distance is 10 m and minimum muzzle energy is 2.5 ft.lbs, so they suit casual plinking and short-range target work. Note: because the core is lead rather than magnetic steel, Smart Shot BBs are not compatible with airgun magazines that use a magnet to retain BBs in the breech. Sold in a tin of 500.
