The Hornady Match Grade Die Bushing .289 is an interchangeable neck-sizing bushing for use with Hornady Match Grade Bushing Dies. Sold individually with an inside diameter of .289", it is one of a range of bushings manufactured in .001" increments, enabling the handloader to select the exact size required to achieve their preferred neck tension with their particular brass. Neck tension — the interference fit between the sized case neck and the seated bullet — has a direct bearing on consistency of bullet pull and, consequently, on velocity spread and group size. A bushing-style die gives the reloader meaningful control over this variable: measure the brass neck thickness, determine the desired tension, and choose the bushing accordingly. Hornady machines each bushing to tight tolerances so performance is repeatable lot to lot.
