Current best practice recommends a suspended gralloch wherever possible — cleaner evisceration, better food hygiene, and a carcass that game dealers are actually happy to accept. The Napier Tree Hugger makes that straightforward even when you are nowhere near a vehicle or a purpose-built hoist. The kit wraps around any tree trunk between approximately 25 cm and 100 cm in diameter; if you can get your arms around it, the Tree Hugger will do the job. The heart of the system is a 2 m hi-vis strap made from cross-weave webbing that is non-slip, self-gripping and strong enough to take the weight of a deer carcass. Two heavy-duty S-hooks let you hock the animal and hang it one leg at a time for a controlled, hygienic evisceration. The whole kit — including a belt-loop pouch and two pairs of disposable gloves — packs down small enough to carry on your belt, so you are ready to gralloch on the spot rather than having to drag the animal to a suitable tree.
