Dasco make the unglamorous consumables that keep footwear going: insoles in leather, lambswool and latex, round laces from 60cm up to an extra-long 180cm, long-handled shoe horns, and the Bama shoe creams for smooth leather.
Worth knowing
- A new footbed buys a boot another season. The insole compacts long before the sole wears out, and a flattened footbed is what makes a boot that used to fit start rubbing. Leather insoles suit a boot worn daily; lambswool is for cold standing work rather than walking, because it packs down under distance.
- Lace length goes by eyelet count, not boot size. Count the pairs of eyelets and hooks: roughly seven pairs wants 120cm, nine or more wants 150cm, and a tall lace-to-the-top stalking or rigger boot is where the 180cm earns its place. Buying short is the commonest mistake here.
- Cream feeds, wax shines. Bama cream puts moisture back into smooth leather and is what to reach for on a boot that has dried hard. It will not build a polish and it is not a waterproofing treatment - for that see the wider range.
- None of this is for nubuck or suede. Cream will mat the nap. Check the leather before you open the tin.
