Hooyman are an American maker of the saws keepers and stalkers actually use for clearing — shooting lanes, highseat approaches, a branch that has grown across a ride since last season.
The extendable tree saws are the core of it, in 5ft MegaBite and 10ft versions. The blade cuts on the pull stroke, which is the right way round on a pole saw because you are not fighting the length of the shaft. The pocket chain saw is a hand-pulled chain for a rucksack; it goes through a fallen bough far faster than a folding saw and weighs nothing. The MegaBite Hunter's Combo carries a bone blade and a wood blade in one handle, which is a sensible thing to have in a stalking pack. The 28in felling axe is 1065 carbon steel.
Before you cut anything. Check who owns the tree and whether it is under a Tree Preservation Order or in a designated area before taking a limb off — clearing a shooting lane is not a defence. And keep a bone blade and a wood blade separate in use: sap and bark ruin a blade for carcass work, and both blunt at different rates.
