The Hooyman 28in Chopping Axe is built for felling and limbing, not splitting — a genuine chopping axe rather than a splitting axe, so the head is shaped and ground for cutting across the grain rather than driving straight down through it. The blade is 1065 high carbon steel with a V-grind edge, giving a stronger, thicker edge that holds a sharp bite through repeated impact instead of rolling or chipping. It sits on a 28in handle with a reinforced fiberglass core for strength and shock absorption, finished with Hooyman's signature green no-slip H-grip handle so the axe stays secure in the hand through a full swing, wet or dry. At roughly 4.4lb it has enough head weight behind it to bite into standing timber and deadwood without being unwieldy for extended use. A peg hole in the handle allows for convenient hanging storage, and a protective sheath is included to cover the edge in transport and storage. A useful axe for anyone clearing ground, processing fallen timber or working around woodland and stalking permissions.
