These Napier snap caps are aluminium-alloy dummy cartridges for 16-bore (16 gauge) shotguns, supplied as a pair. Dry-firing a shotgun on an empty chamber lets the strikers fall against nothing, which over time can crack or fatigue the firing pins and tip springs. Chambering a snap cap gives the pins a cushioned surface to strike, so you can safely test triggers, practise gun handling, or release the mainsprings before the gun goes into the cabinet. Easing that spring tension for long-term storage is the main reason most shooters keep a set to hand, and it is sound practice whether the gun is a side-by-side, over-and-under or single-barrel. The 16 bore is the right size for the gun, so the caps seat correctly in the chamber and the breech closes as it would on a live round. Made from quality aluminium, they are light, reusable and a sensible bit of kit for anyone who shoots or stores a 16-bore shotgun. Sold as a matched pair.
