The 500mm Gong is the largest round plate in Tom's Targets' centrefire range — a big, unmistakable target built for fast target transitions, group sessions, or getting a new shooter's confidence up before moving on to smaller plates. At around 20 inches across it's easy to see and easy to confirm a hit on at distance, which makes it a sensible choice for sighting in, testing trajectory drop at longer ranges, or running drills where speed matters more than a tight group. Like the rest of the range it's cut from 10mm-thick Hardox 500 plate — SSAB's abrasion-resistant steel with a nominal 500 HBW Brinell hardness and guaranteed impact toughness — so it stands up to repeated centrefire hits without the cratering or spalling ordinary mild steel suffers. The laser-cut edge gives a clean finish, and the plate is designed to hang from Tom's Targets' own Poles and Chains, Pro Stand or A-frame system (sold separately). It's supplied in its natural steel finish, ready to be painted in a colour that shows up clearly downrange. Tom's Targets, a Midlands-based UK manufacturer, use only certified Hardox 500 plate and rate their gongs for all firearms except .50 calibre and above — observe a safe minimum engagement distance and wear eye protection.
