- A practical step towards fewer rejected bullets from inconsistent alloy
CleanCast is Frankford Arsenal's lead fluxing compound for bullet casters, developed as a cleaner alternative to the rosin, paraffin, tallow and homemade concoctions reloaders have traditionally stirred into a lead pot. Fluxing is the step that separates dross and impurities from your bullet alloy, and CleanCast does it without the smoke and odour that comes with older methods - a genuine benefit if you're casting indoors or in a garage workshop. Only a small amount is needed: enough to treat up to a 20lb lead pot, so a 1lb tub goes a long way over a casting season. Beyond cleaning up the melt, a properly fluxed pot gives more consistent alloy throughout the casting run, which means fewer rejected bullets from voids, inclusions or inconsistent weight. Stir it into the molten lead before you start casting and skim off the dross that rises to the surface. A straightforward addition to the bench for anyone casting their own bullets for reloading.
