Hornady Varmint Express .223 Remington is a centrefire varmint load built around the polymer-tipped 55-grain V-MAX bullet, a round that has earned its place in the fox shooter's and ground-pest controller's rifle. The V-MAX combines a high ballistic coefficient with a sharp polymer tip that initiates rapid, violent fragmentation on contact, giving the flat trajectory and decisive terminal effect you want when reaching out across a stubble field or a quiet headland at last light. Loaded in Hornady's own brass with carefully matched powder and primers, each cartridge is put together for consistent ignition and lot-to-lot accuracy. From a 24-inch test barrel the load leaves the muzzle at around 3,240 fps for roughly 1,282 ft-lb of energy, holding a usefully flat line out to sensible varminting ranges.
