A working dog spends most of its day off the lead, which is precisely why the lead it does wear needs to come off and go back on in one movement. That is what a slip lead is for, and it is the bulk of what is on this page.
Rope diameter is the choice most people get wrong. A 6mm braided rope is fine on a spaniel and light in the pocket; on a big labrador that leans into it, 8mm or 12mm spreads the load and is kinder on the dog's neck and your hand. The Bisley range runs across all three.
The rubber stop on the deluxe patterns is not decoration. Set it to the dog's neck and the slip cannot tighten past that point, which matters if the dog hits the end of it on a runner.
White field trial leads are white because a judge needs to see the handler's hands. If you are not competing, colour is your own business — a yellow or red braid is simply easier to find in a beat line or a hedge bottom.
Whistle lanyards are here too, in bootlace leather, so the whistle stops living in a coat pocket.
