The Hornady 55-grain .224 FMJ-BT (Full Metal Jacket Boat-Tail) with cannelure is a traditional target and plinking bullet for handloaders working with .223 Rem, .22-250 Rem or similar .224-bore centrefire rifles. The full metal jacket ensures the projectile maintains its shape on impact without fragmentation — important for range use, steel targets or applications where pass-through performance is desired. Hornady's AMP (Advanced Manufacturing Process) jacket construction produces near-zero concentricity variation and near-zero wall-thickness variation, setting this bullet apart from thin-plated FMJ alternatives that can distort or separate at the jacket-core interface. The boat-tail base aids stability in flight and improves the ballistic coefficient over a comparable flat-base design, while the cannelure provides a positive crimp groove for cartridges that require a firm bullet seat or where magazine-fed applications demand it. Sold as component projectiles for handloading — no case, primer or propellant included.
