The Opinel No.2 is the smallest knife in the brand's traditional carbon-steel range, a simple folding pocket knife made in France since 1890. The blade is XC90 carbon steel in the classic Yatagan shape, measuring 3.5cm, paired with a varnished beech handle of 4.66cm. At well under 3 inches the blade keeps the knife within UK everyday-carry limits, making it a sensible choice for a coat pocket or kit bag. This is a non-locking model, so it folds and unfolds freely without the Virobloc collar found on Opinel's larger numbers. Carbon steel takes a keen edge and is easy to bring back on a stone, which suits the No.2 for fine, close work such as trimming line, cutting cord, opening packets and other light tasks around the truck, the hide or the home. The PEFC-certified beech handle is hard-wearing and sits comfortably in the hand. Carbon steel will corrode if neglected, so dry the blade after use and wipe it with a little oil to keep it in good order.
