These Hornady SST (Super Shock Tip) projectiles are component bullets for handloading .270 calibre cartridges, measuring .277" in diameter and weighing 130 grains, supplied 100 per box (item 27302). They are bullet heads only, not loaded ammunition, so you seat and crimp them onto your own prepared cases and powder charge. The hard polymer tip is driven back into the lead core on impact, acting like a wedge to start rapid, controlled expansion while raising the ballistic coefficient for a flatter trajectory. A secant ogive and boattail base reduce drag and aid stability downrange, and a mid-body cannelure gives a consistent crimp during loading. Hornady's InterLock ring mechanically locks the copper jacket to the core, holding the bullet together through expansion for strong weight retention and the chance of a clean pass-through. Flat shooting and accurate, the 130gr SST is well suited to deer stalking and medium game out to sensible ranges, making it a sound choice for stalkers rolling their own .270 loads.
