The 3M Peltor SportTac is an active electronic ear defender built for shooting and hunting, where you need protection from gunshot noise without losing touch with what's going on around you. Its level-dependent circuit amplifies quiet ambient sound - footsteps, dogs working, someone talking - by up to four times in stereo, so you can hear more clearly than with the muffs off, then instantly attenuates any sound over 82 dB before it reaches your ears. 3M's digital audio circuit removes the harsh, abrupt cut-off common to cheaper level-dependent muffs, so the protection engages smoothly and is barely noticeable in use. Rated SNR 26 dB, it runs on two AAA batteries for around 600 hours and shuts off automatically to save power when left idle. The low-profile, two-point headband fastening spreads pressure evenly for a stable, comfortable fit even with a stock mounted against the cheek, and the whole unit folds flat for storage in a bag or gun slip. A wired input lets you connect an external two-way radio directly through the headset. This pair has interchangeable black and red shells.
