This German-type hatchet from Prandi pairs a hand-forged carbon steel head with a traditional hickory handle, built to the classic axe pattern long favoured across continental Europe for splitting and general camp work. The head is carbon steel (C45/1045), polished and hardened for a durable, long-holding edge, and weighs 600 grams (1.35lb) — enough heft to bite into logs without being unwieldy for one-handed use. It is fitted to a 14.2" varnished hickory handle, a timber valued for its shock absorption and resistance to splitting under repeated impact, and finished with a leather hanging loop so it can be carried or hung safely when not in use. A leather scabbard is included to protect the edge in transit and storage. Prandi has been forging axes and hatchets at its Primaluna workshop in northern Italy since 1969, and this hatchet reflects that heritage — a straightforward, well-made tool for camp, garden and woodland tasks rather than a specialist bushcraft blade.
