The Laurin Metalli Carving Blade 54mm with Ricasso is a bare knife blade blank from Laurin Metalli, the long-established Finnish blade maker based in Kauhava. Made from X50CrMoV15 stainless steel, it carries a 54mm cutting edge with a blade depth of 16mm and a blade width (spine thickness) of 2mm, finished with the traditional Scandinavian flat grind that Laurin's blades are known for. A ricasso - the short unsharpened section at the base of the blade - separates the edge from the tang, giving a clean, tight fit against a bolster or guard and helping to keep moisture out of the finished handle. The tang itself is left generously long so it can be shaped, drilled and fitted with scales or a full handle to suit the maker's own design. Supplied as a blade only, with no handle, bolster or sheath included, it is intended for knifemakers building their own small carving, whittling or general-purpose knife, and pairs with Laurin's own range of ferrules and bolsters.
