The Laurin Metalli Carving Blade is an 80mm knife blade blank in 80CrV2 carbon steel, from the century-old Finnish blade maker based in Kauhava. Laurin Metalli make blades only, not finished knives, and their carbon steel and stainless blanks are used by many of Finland's puukko and bushcraft knife makers. This carving pattern has a blade depth of 16mm and a thickness of 3.25mm. It's supplied sharpened and ground rather than polished, ready for a maker to shape handle scales, drill for pins and fit a handle of their own choosing — no handle or sheath is included. 80CrV2 is a popular choice of carbon steel for knifemaking, valued for taking a very keen edge and being straightforward to resharpen on a stone; being carbon rather than stainless, it should be dried and lightly oiled after use to keep it from rusting.
