The Morakniv Leather Edge Guard is a protective sheath for the 162 and 164 hook knives, the curved carving knives Morakniv make for hollowing spoons, bowls and scoops. It is made from thick, vegetable-tanned Swedish leather in its natural, undyed colour, and closes over the blade with a simple press-stud button fastener rather than a strap or clip. Fitting the guard whenever the knife is not in use does two things: it keeps the curved edge away from fingers, pockets and the inside of a tool roll, cutting the risk of an accidental nick, and it protects the edge itself, since Morakniv note that contact with anything harder than wood can dull a hook knife's fine bevel. This is the leather guard only — no knife is included — and it is a direct, snug fit for the current-pattern 162 (double-edged) and 164 (right-handed) hook knives specifically; it is not designed to fit older or differently shaped hook knife models, so check which knife you own before ordering. A sensible, inexpensive add-on for anyone using either knife regularly for spoon carving or general woodwork.
